Description

Beautifully made classical foot paperweight from a workshop in South West England. Cast in gypsum plaster.

During the 19th Century, beautiful statues and architecture in Greece and Rome were destroyed. Parts of them were sold to wealthy travellers on the “Grand Tour”. The original of this classical foot paperweight was part of a statue of a Greek Goddess that would have reached approximately 35ft, dating back to BC 150 – BC 50 and can be seen at Chatsworth House, England. A right foot that is thought to match the left can be seen at the Staaliche Museum in Berlin.

Dimensions: 7cm H x 10cm W x 17.5cm D
