Description

This is a 19th Century steamer trunk. It features a warm reddy brown canvas, leather and wood strappings, flush brass locks, corners, and studwork. Together with leather side carrying handles. The interior is in its original condition with two removable trays. It is sturdy and fully functional, it’s flat top means that it is perfect for use as a coffee table. Plus the added bonus of internal storage.

The flush locks no longer work and the leather straps holding one of the handles have split, but it is otherwise in a very good original condition.

Steamer trunks were named after their location of storage in the hold of a steam ship or “steamer”, their flat tops making them easier to store. They were originally used as luggage for extended trips away.
